Why it lasts

Never Rots, Never Splinters, Never Needs Sealing

Zero water uptake
Never rots
Solid HDPE absorbs nothing, so there is no swelling, no decay and no soft ends after a wet spring.
No grain, no fibre
Never splinters
Bare feet, bare hands and livestock are all fine with it, and for many decades to come.
Untreated polymer
Nothing leaches
No preservatives in the board, so it sits safely against soil, feed, garden beds and open water.
Colour runs through
Never needs sealing
No sanding, staining or annual refinish. Wash it when it's dirty and that's the whole schedule.

Our biggest line

Decking Packages for Builders

Most of the plastic lumber that leaves our yard becomes a deck. Just tell us how big your deck is and we'll count every board and screw it takes, and price the lot.

What a decking package includes

  • Deck boards: counted for your dimensions, in your colour
  • Fasteners: the right screws and the right quantity
  • Cut layout: drawn so every joint lands on a joist
  • Install sheet: gapping, spacing and fastening for our board
  • A firm price: usually back with you the next business day

From waste to board

What Our Plastic Lumber Is Made From

Paint pails in, lumber out. Ours comes from the plastics almost nobody will take (used oil containers and paint pails, dirty and mixed and worth nothing to anyone else) collected through Canada's regulated programmes and extruded into solid board at our own plant.

Our material
Used paint and oil pails collected for recycling into plastic lumber

Collected

Paint and oil pails recovered through regulated Canadian recycling programs.

Recycled HDPE pails ground down into flake, the feedstock for plastic lumber

Ground

Cleaned and ground to flake. Mixed colours go in together, which is where the grey comes from.

Recycled HDPE being extruded into plastic lumber boards

Extruded

Melted and formed into solid dimensional boards. No wood fibre, no chemical treatment.

Stacks of finished recycled plastic lumber boards on the plant floor

Solid board

Solid through the section. Cut it, drill it and fasten it with ordinary tools.

Our impact

Plastic Waste Diverted From Canadian Landfill

Buying the board is what pulls the plastic out of the waste stream. Canadians bin roughly three million tonnes a year and recycle under a tenth of it, and pails sit at the difficult end of that: too contaminated for most processors, too cheap to be worth cleaning.

Need this for a report?

We issue a diversion statement for any project, showing the weight kept out of landfill by your order. Councils put them in committee reports; builders put them on site boards.

See What Your Project Would Divert

Put in your dimensions. We'll show you the weight of plastic your build keeps out of landfill, and issue it as a statement you can hand to a client or a council.

Estimate based on 2×6 boards at 8 ft

Your project would divert

612lbs

of plastic that would otherwise have gone to landfill.

What Builders and Municipalities Say

A portable mini-golf course built on recycled plastic lumber, laid out on grass

When we set out to manufacture portable Miniature Golf we needed material that was durable, long lasting and fit the look and vision we wanted. Grey is Green checked absolutely every box! They are now more than just our supplier, they are friends that have gone over and above for us time and time again. From the material itself to the team behind it, we look forward to working with Grey is Green for many years to come!

Susan LaRue beside her finished deck in grey recycled plastic lumber, Georgina, Ontario

The question to ask myself was not if I should, but when I should replace my decking with the recycled plastic decking. The end result has turned out beautifully and I will never have to redo this deck again. Longevity and durability are the key factors. One power wash and it's clean as a whistle. I would highly recommend.
